The process flow of hydrogen refueling station mainly includes the following steps:

Hydrogen transportation and storage: Hydrogen is usually transported from hydrogen production units to hydrogen refueling stations by long tube trailers as 20MPa compressed hydrogen. In the hydrogen refueling station, hydrogen is unloaded into high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks.

Hydrogen boosting: When the vehicle needs to be refueled, the hydrogen in the hydrogen storage tank is filled into the on-board hydrogen storage bottle of the fuel cell vehicle through the hydrogen refueling machine. The maximum design pressure level of the hydrogen refueling station needs to match the pressure level of the on-board hydrogen storage of the refueling vehicle, such as 35MPa or 70MPa.

Equipment selection: The core equipment of the hydrogen refueling station includes compressors, fixed hydrogen storage facilities and hydrogen refueling machines. The compressor is responsible for hydrogen boosting, the fixed hydrogen storage facility is used to store hydrogen, and the hydrogen refueling machine is used to refuel the vehicle. In addition, the hydrogen refueling station also includes auxiliary equipment such as control systems, nitrogen purge devices and monitoring devices.

‌Differences in process flow between different types of hydrogen refueling stations‌:

‌External hydrogen supply station‌: This type of hydrogen refueling station relies on hydrogen supplied from outside, which is mainly transported by long-tube trailers. The process includes hydrogen transportation, storage and pressurization, and finally hydrogenation of vehicles through hydrogen refueling machines‌.
‌In-station hydrogen production station‌: This type of hydrogen refueling station is equipped with hydrogen production equipment inside. The generated hydrogen is stored after cooling and compression, and then hydrogenation of vehicles is performed through hydrogen refueling machines. The process includes hydrogen production, cooling, compression and storage, and finally hydrogenation of vehicles through hydrogen refueling machines‌.
