CNG is mainly methane (CH4), and also contains a small amount of propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10). Compared with gasoline, CNG has a higher octane number (above 100) and calorific value, and its anti-explosion performance is significantly better than gasoline, and its combustion performance is also better. Natural gas is a low-density gas with a high auto-ignition point. Under normal temperature and pressure, it is less likely to burn and explode than gasoline, and its safety is better. It is an ideal green vehicle fuel.

The hydrogen sulfide content in natural gas is directly related to an important indicator of sulfide stress cracking of steel cylinders. In actual operation, in order to prevent the sulfide content in the incoming natural gas from exceeding the standard, the gas station should be equipped with a desulfurization device. Strictly controlling and reducing the sulfide content is conducive to the safe use of gas vehicles.
